On March 10, we participated in the project of the International Polar Year 2007-8. We marked eleven dots on the 6.5-meter ribbon and tried to think about the changing earth.

The earth was formed long, long time ago. On the other hand, human beings were born just recently. But, don't you have the wrong idea that human beings which appeared on the earth only recently have caused the global warming and are going to destroy the earth even though the dawn of humanity is only 300,000 years ago, which is very much short in the history of the earth? For the earth, the global warming always happens and it is a tiny thing! The earth is never destroyed so easily! Human beings caused global warming and are going to wipe out! But, there is a possibility that some animals and plants are ruined unfortunately. So everyone, let's stop the global warming!

The 6.5-meter-length indicates 65,000,000 years, the time from the extinction of the dinosaurs in the international polar region to now.
It was difficult to attach the triangle-shaped sheets to the appropriate locations.
We finished the work. We were surprised at the length of the ribbon. And moreover, the fact that we need 460-meter-length of ribbon to show from the birth of the earth to now, surprised us.

We marked dots on the ribbon. There is 10 centimeters between dots. 10 centimeters indicate 1,000,000 years. So this ribbon shows 65,000,000 years. We made the arrows using color paper, and wrote the historical events on them.

Today, we could learn the changing earth and how the North and the South Poles were created in the international polar region. This picture shows the scene of our experiment. We started from the point of 65,000,000 years ago when dinosaurs became distinct. We marked dots every 10-centimeter. This picture shows the events 1,000,000 years. My birthday, around 10 years ago, was only 0.001 millimeters from another end of the ribbon.
Through this experiment, I found that it has been long time since the dinosaurs' extinction and the history of earth is much more than that. There were many events in its history.
